Logo Design for new start-up company: Your Drywall Doc
So, a new start-up company, a home and a commercial drywall contractor contracted me to develop a brand for them. The owners said they wanted a “meme-type character with a fun look and feel. Not a doctor guy—but a clean drywall expert with knives in his hands. And, oh, the character—we want him to look like the owner—Oscar.”
This logo project is out-of-the-norm for most business branding projects, but definitely within my scope of graphic design skills, and one I would call a “fun, challenging project”. After the initial meeting, with the owner Oscar, at my out-of-home office Starbucks, I determined Oscar definitely had features that I could pull off in designing a meme-type character. We discussed the direction and brand utilization, including image, signage, and custom apparel in some detail, but overall he left many details up to me. However, when I asked about a color scheme, he pointed to a red and green Mexico-inspired tattoo and said, “go with this”.
The collaboration with the client was really great. Due to the owners needing to launch the business within a few weeks, the quick responses and feedback made the project develop quickly. The logotype was developed first and the other brand elements around it. The Your script font is Cosmoball and DRYWALL DOC font is Museo. Many other options were typeset to determine the best look. The customer did not really have a preference, I chose this combination and we pressed forward.
Not all of the logo elements were custom drawn. I created several contract sheets with possible stock images for myself and the client to review for building this logo brand image, including many character-building images, many many knives, and textural elements. The character’s hair, eyes, smile, mustache, beard, hard hat, and arms are all customized to build the appearance in the final version to look like Oscar.
The owners were thrilled with the final look and the business officially launched in August 2022. Be on the lookout for Your Drywall Doc in the Longview, Tyler market. The company has purchased an ambulance-type vehicle to use as their service truck to enhance the brand’s medic theme. Auto-graphic design and vehicle signage were definitely discussed with the owners for marketing as a future project.
Custom printed business cards, signage, and custom tee shirts are in the works. Drywall Doc does not currently have a Google My Business page or website. If you are interested in Drywall Services you can contact Oscar Pineda, Your Drywall Doc CEO at 1 (317) 731-3713.
