Dr. Charli is one of the most talented editors I have had the pleasure of working and collaborating with. Since we were introduced by Pastor Thomas McDaniels a few years ago, we have worked on six books, including her own. Dr. Charli’s new book, Wounded Warrior, is the best-written book of its genre that I have read in some time. Her transparency about her life experiences and revelations on overcoming is profound and engaging.

The book’s graphic design, including the cover, pagination, layout, and typography, is my creative work. The cover title and chapter headlines are RetroTeam typeface, and the rest of the book’s body copy is Minion Pro.

The cover concept featuring the eye with fractured cracks was a concept that Dr. Charli initially presented. I took the concept and developed several versions and color schemes over a few weeks before we finalized the look, which is now published. After a thorough stock image search, various eyes were reviewed for the cover. I am fascinated by how macro photographs of the eye suggest about a person’s character and state of being. The eye is very personal — raw but enlightened and influenced in many ways internally and externally. Stress can produce redness, illness can produce dullness, yet vitality can enhance the eye’s brilliance. This famous phrase “Eyes are Windows to the Soul” is related to the Bible verses Matthew 6:22-24 which says, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness.”

Dr. Charli is a writer, speaker, leader, life coach, and change agent. Affectionately known as “Dr. Charli”, she loves to ‘keep it real’ with humor in leadership and ministry. She holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Stephen F.
Austin State University. She has spread her professional experiences across small business, education, corporations, and non-profits. She currently serves as the Executive Director for Active-Faith (Active-Faith.org), the CEO of
Rapha Alliance, LLC., and Executive Editor of Totally Lovin’ Me Magazine.
