Children’s Book Cover Design for Author Steve Hemphill

Dante’s Hairy Scary Dream is the newest book by author Steve Hemphill and is the first book of a series of Spiritual Warfare Stories for Children to be released. The book cover: layout, typography, and branded book title were designed by Red Type Design and is the 3rd book cover designed for author Steve Hemphill. Other book covers are What Are the Stakes?, and 12 Spiritual Warfare Weapons – What do you do when praying isn’t working.

Dante’s Hairy Scary Dream cover title was a challenge—the feel of the book’s identity needed to relate to children, and most importantly, it must complement the naïveté expressionist cover illustration by Ro Diaz. After much research and type-styling, the final selection for the book’s branded headline is a modification of the typeface “Sparking Witch,” with various alterations to the baselines, scaling, and arching radius.

The book cover design and mechanical artwork were produced in Adobe Indesign to meet PALDIN Publishing specifications. Many thanks to Charli Caraway, Author of Wounded Warrior and Active-Faith speaker/team member, for her project management and collaboration on the book design and publishing.
